Billy Joel

Billy Joel was always open about his Bipolar Disorder. Nevertheless, people, and particularly his fans, continued to love his music and respect him as the great singer songwriter that he is. As Billy Joel clearly has demonstrated, Bipolar is not only a problem but also a source of great inspiration. While most people hide their defects for fear of what others may say, Billy knows that the only way  we can become  better human beings is by exposing our defects, become compassionate, and help each other. But Billy is right ahead of his time. We can only wait patiently for a better, more intelligent humanity.

These are the words from Summer Highland Falls. To understand Bipolar, it helps to listen to the music, look at the art and read the writings of those that have suffered or  suffer with the disorder. Bipolar disorder is very complex and, apart from many things, it is also an intelligence, the bipolar intelligent that propels humanity.

They say that these are not the best of times
But they’re the only times I’ve ever known
And I believe there is a time for meditation
In cathedrals of our own
Now I have seen that sad surrender in my mother’s eyes
I can only stand apart and sympathize
For we are always what our situations hand us
Its either sadness or euphoria
So we’ll argue and we’ll compromise
And realize that nothing’s ever changed
For all our mutual experience
Our separate conclusions are the same
Now we are forced to recognize our inhumanity
A reason coexists with our insanity
Though we choose between reality and madness
Its either sadness or euphoria
How thoughtlessly we dissipate our energies
Perhaps we’ll help fulfill each other’s fantasies
And as we stand upon the ledges of our lives with our respective similarities
Its either sadness or euphoria

There is a long list of high achievers in all fields whose success is thanks to their bipolar. Lin Edwards has described this at https://medicalxpress.com/news/2010-02-high-bipolar.html
